Raspberries, cherry tomatoes, and chocolate. In the cup – juicy, fresh, and very clean, with a bright acidity that energizes the coffee. A pleasant chocolate sweetness emerges at the finish, well balancing the fruity character.
ABOUT THE FARM
The coffee comes from Ibonia Estate – one of the oldest plantations in the Kiambu region. The farm occupies over 100 hectares, with nearly 60% of its area remaining natural forest. Coffee grows here at an altitude of approximately 1,700 m above sea level, in fertile volcanic soils and cool climate conditions that slow down berry ripening, allowing for more sweetness and complexity to develop.
ABOUT THE VARIETY AND PROCESSING
Its character is shaped by SL28 and SL34 – iconic Kenyan varieties that have been the basis for the country's best coffees for decades. These varieties contribute to the distinct fruitiness, high acidity, and intensity found in Kenyan coffees. The beans were processed using the fully washed method. The berries are hand-picked and carefully sorted, then fermented for 12–24 hours, washed, and soaked in clean water for another 24 hours. Finally, the coffee is slowly dried on raised beds for 7–15 days.
Because we love classic styles when done really well. Ibonia showcases the character of Kenya without unnecessary additives – it is intense, juicy, and complex, yet very drinkable. This is simply a coffee you want to come back to.
