ABOUT THE COFFEE
Gui Ben originates from Shigaoqing and Gui Ben - areas historically renowned for tea. However, this is coffee, and it is impressive. The farms are located in the wild part of Yunnan, east of Pu'er city and very close to the border with Laos. All coffee operations are overseen by Mr. Tian Cai, the head of Yunnan Coffee Traders (YCT) farms, while daily management is handled by his relative, Mr. Tang. This is a family team belonging to a small group of farmers in the Gui Ben region. The coffee cherries are sourced both from their own crops and from neighboring smallholders. The cherries are spread in a thin layer on raised beds for two to three days before being gathered and dried for another 25 days. Only then do they proceed to further processing, sorting, and, once prepared, await shipment to warehouses in Europe. We roasted them quite light for espresso, giving them a lingering aftertaste. In the background, there is a note typical of Asian coffees, but the highlight here is the sweetness of yellow plums.
Store in a cool, dry place.
