All about the product
Mino warrior metal chess set with golden and silver chess pieces and a 36 cm brown chessboard
The Minoan civilization flourished on the island of Crete in Greece 4,500 years ago and was named after the mythical King Minos of Knossos. Despite the common belief that the Minoans were a peaceful civilization, hunting scenes often depicted shields, helmets, and clothing more suited to a warrior than a hunter. Additionally, an empire of such scale with neighbors possessing great military power, such as Egypt and others, could not have been established without a strong and significant Minoan army.
The king is inspired by the fresco relief known as the Prince of the Lilies in the palaces of Knossos. The snake goddess (queen) was a matriarchal figure of fertility, dressed in the garments of the time. The bishop figure was inspired by the mythical monster Minotaur, who was imprisoned in the labyrinth of the palace. The castle is a palace column still standing in Knossos, well-preserved in red color. The double axe held by the soldier (infantryman) is a religious symbol of that time, while the knight is inspired by the late Minoan period decoration.
