The dietary supplement Carnitine is a powdered preparation containing a combination of two highly absorbable and active forms of carnitine: L-carnitine fumarate and acetyl L-carnitine (ALC). The supplement dissolves very well in water and has a pleasant, slightly sour taste.
Carnitines transport long-chain fatty acids to mitochondria, where they can be oxidized ("burned") to produce energy.
Carnitines are substances similar in structure to amino acids; similar but not the same, as they are not used by the body as building blocks for protein synthesis, unlike amino acids.
