All about the product
Traditionally, liquid tea or "usucha" is prepared using 1 chashaku (one teaspoon) of matcha and approximately 75–100 ml of hot water. This ratio is ideal for creating a perfectly frothy texture on the surface of the matcha.
Koicha, or thick tea, is made using significantly more matcha – 4–6 chashakus (4–6 teaspoons) with 150 ml of hot water. The resulting matcha is much thicker and sweeter. It is harder to whisk, and this method does not create the characteristic froth. It is almost exclusively served as part of a Japanese tea ceremony.
