The sensor reacts to interruptions of IR rays transmitted between the transmitter and receiver. When another object interrupts the ray, the receiver starts to signal this event. The module features a 3 mm IR LED with an illumination angle of 10°. Beam interruption systems are used, for example, in gate measurements.
