"Clans of Caledonia" is a medium-weight economic game set in 19th century Scotland. At that time, Scotland transitioned from an agricultural to an industrial nation, heavily relying on trade and export. In the following years, food production increased significantly to support population growth. Flax was increasingly replaced by cheaper cotton, and sheep farming received much attention. More distilling factories were established, and whiskey became the highest quality alcoholic beverage in Europe. Players represent historical clans with unique abilities and compete by producing, trading, and exporting agricultural goods and, of course, whiskey! The game ends after five rounds. Each turn consists of three phases: 1. Players' turn 2. Production phase 3. Round point calculation 1. Players take turns performing one of eight possible actions – from building to upgrading, trading, and exporting. When players run out of money, they finish their turn and receive their completion bonus. 2. In the production phase, each player collects basic resources, refined goods, and cash from their production units built on the game map. Each built production unit allows for income visibility on the player board. Refined goods require corresponding basic resources. 3. Players earn VP based on the current round points. The game features eight different clans, a modular board with 16 configurations, eight ports, and eight round point tables.
