The dietary supplement Carnitine is a powder formulation containing a combination of two highly absorbable and active forms of carnitine: carnitine fumarate and acetyl L-carnitine (ALC). The supplement dissolves very well in water and has a pleasant, slightly sour taste.
Carnitines transport long-chain fatty acids to the mitochondria, where they can be oxidized ("burned") to produce energy.
Carnitines are substances structurally similar to amino acids; similar but not the same, as they are not used by the body as building blocks for protein synthesis, as is the case with amino acids.
