The AF function has been improved based on the AF function used in the α9 and optimized for it. So when the α7R III captures an unpredictably moving wild animal, it doesn't easily get out of the frame.
Universal coverage for fast hybrid AF
399 phase detection AF points covering approximately 68% of the image width and height and 425 densely spaced contrast detection AF points11 help you focus where it would otherwise be impossible.

Up to 2x (approx) faster AF response12
Thanks to the faster response and the improved High Speed Hybrid AF function, AF works approximately twice as fast12 in low-light conditions.

About twice as accurate AF tracking5
The AF algorithm adopted from the α9 enables twice as accurate5 AF tracking for continuous shooting, even when capturing complex or sudden movement.

The AF function works reliably even at EV-3 brightness
Advanced AF algorithms contribute to extremely high AF accuracy even at low light levels like the EV-313 and ensure accurate autofocus when shooting in the dark.

Don't miss a single moment
A new directional control, AF activation button and touch focus function make focusing fast and intuitive. The α7R III has two built-in sockets and is compatible with the NP-FZ100 high-capacity rechargeable battery, so nothing gets in the way of your shooting without the need for frequent media or battery changes.
