This unique wooden chess set consists of a variety of thoughtfully crafted products. The set consists of a perfectly matched Olive Burl chessboard, crafted by skilled craftsmen in the Manopoulos workshop in Greece using the art of marquising. Chess pieces have a king height of about 5.8 cm. Carefully selected wood veneers, traditional designs and exceptional craftsmanship using marquise art bring this wooden chess collection to life.
Staunton chess pieces - the ones we know and love, the ones we just think of as chess pieces. These classic chess pieces are named after Howard Staunton, who was considered one of the best players in the world. The horse, the most complex and distinctive piece in any chess set, is a realistically carved horse's head. Staunton's horseman was most likely inspired by the sculpture on the east pediment of the Parthenon.
