Hiking and city backpacks

For the city a compact 15–25 litre pack works well, with room for a laptop, documents and a water bottle. On the trail you'll want more volume, plus a supportive back panel and a hip belt to take the load off your shoulders over longer distances. School kids do well with a lightweight pack and an ergonomic back, while cyclists tend to prefer a slim model that lets the back breathe. How much volume you need comes down to how much you usually carry.
