Teltonika RUT145 (RUT145000000) is an industrial Ethernet router with 2 Fast Ethernet ports and a native RS485 serial port, designed for use in automation, manufacturing and other environments requiring stable wired connectivity. The device runs on the RutOS system, offering full network functionality, industrial-grade security and native support for protocols such as Modbus, DLMS/COSEM, DNP3 and OPC UA. Thanks to its compact design and DIN rail mounting option, the router can be easily installed in crowded control cabinets.

Teltonika RUT145 is designed for applications where the stability of a wired Ethernet network and the ability to connect devices with serial interfaces are key. In practice, it acts as a gateway between RS‑485 and IP, so it is used in power stations, water and sewage installations, smart buildings, production lines and refrigeration systems, among others. It requires only a constant 9–30 VDC power supply and standard network cabling, which shortens deployment time and reduces infrastructure costs.

The router supports numerous industrial protocols, allowing data to be collected from meters, control systems and sensors without the need to program custom gateways. In Modbus mode, it works as a client or server (TCP/RTU), supports extended data formats (8-, 16- and 32-bit types) and allows custom register block configuration. DNP3 and DLMS/COSEM enable integration of energy meters and utility installations, while OPC UA allows router data to be exposed as services on the factory network.

In terms of security, Teltonika RUT145 offers a complete set of mechanisms: a firewall with traffic rules, NAT, DMZ, NTP time synchronisation, DDOS attack library (SYN flood, port scanning), as well as numerous VPN types: OpenVPN, IPsec, WireGuard, L2TP, PPTP, SSTP, ZeroTier and Tinc. This makes it possible to securely connect branches, machines and servers to the cloud while limiting access only to defined services and users. It is also recommended to use X.509 credentials and Let’s Encrypt certificates to secure HTTPS connections.

The RUT145 router supports functions such as QoS/SQM, VLAN, IGMP Proxy, multi-WAN load balancing and failover (e.g. between Wi‑Fi and Ethernet). In an industrial environment, hotspots can be used so that service technicians and partners have controlled access to the factory network, with a limit on the number of users and traffic filtering. On the administrator side, the system offers network topology mapping, firewall statistics, event logs, traffic usage reports and integration with IoT platforms (ThingWorx, Cumulocity, Azure IoT Hub, AWS IoT Core).

At the heart of the device is a 580 MHz Mediatek processor, 128 MB DDR2 RAM and 16 MB of NOR Flash memory, providing sufficient performance for industrial and IoT applications. The box occupies very little space (113.1 × 25 × 68.6 mm) and weighs just 140 g, and is powered via a 3-pin terminal in the 9–30 VDC range with protection against reverse polarity and surge pulses. In standby mode, power consumption is below 1 W, which translates into low operating costs in 24/7 installations. Passive PoE power supply via the LAN1 port is also possible, provided compatible power supplies are used.

RutOS provides an extensive HTTP(S) API and support for MQTT protocols, enabling integration of external applications with servers and the cloud. The “Data to Server” function allows parameters to be collected from various sources (serial interfaces, industrial protocols, sensors) and sent in a single package to the server. Combined with the Modbus MQTT Gateway module, the user can remotely send commands to field devices and receive data without the need to write custom application software. All rules can be refined using LUA scripts, supported in the RutOS environment.
