A focal length range of 200-500mm (DX format equivalent 300-750mm) provides exceptional coverage, perfect for capturing hard-to-capture birds and mammals in high detail. A constant f/5.6 aperture provides comfortable speed and gives you smooth control over depth of field at any setting in the zoom range. When the subject is close, thanks to the shortest focusing distance (only 2.2 m), extremely clear and sharp images can be captured.

Advanced vibration reduction (VR) technology and SPORT VR mode

Shoot handheld and don't worry about the effects of camera shake. Track fast-moving objects precisely with SPORT VR mode, even if they do so unpredictably.

Nikon's impressive Vibration Reduction system dramatically reduces blur, especially when shooting at zoom range settings that most closely match the focal length range of a super-efficient telephoto lens. You can shoot with shutter speeds up to 4.5 stops slower, perfect for capturing spectacular images during the golden hour¹. In addition, the SPORT VR mode allows you to capture the action with incredible clarity. This mode provides a stable image in the viewfinder, which is useful when shooting extremely fast-moving action or when panning the camera.

The lens is extremely efficient due to the optical design used with three extra low dispersion (ED) glass lenses. ED glass eliminates chromatic aberration to capture images with bright colors and adequate contrast right to the edge of the frame.

Speed and accuracy

Designed for use with fast Nikon DSLRs, this lens is responsive and precise. The electromagnetic diaphragm ensures that accurate exposure is achieved when shooting with a large number of frames.

Nikon's exclusive Silent Wave motor ensures fast autofocus with smooth manual control. A fixed maximum aperture (f/5.6) ensures that AF works even at 1.4k. teleconverter (when attached to a camera that supports an aperture of f/8). The electromagnetic diaphragm works well at maximum shutter speed and frame rate, even when using a separately purchased teleconverter.

Travel light with a long lens – it doesn't take up much space when packed away. A zoom lock switch protects the lens when not in use.
