Amarok (Amaroq, Amaguq) - Means wolf in the Inuit language. In Inuit mythology, it is a giant wolf that hunts alone. The Eskimos tell from word of mouth about a boy who inherited the title of tribal leader when he was young. Since he was small and weak, he decided to get strength from the legendary Amarok. In the moon wall, the boy summoned a giant wolf, bigger than even a polar bear. Amarok told the boy that if he had the will, he would become the greatest ruler of his tribe. Amarok instructed the boy to return to him every day and train together to become stronger each time. After only a few weeks, the boy felt strong enough to overcome even three polar bears. Such is the path of the most warlike and powerful chief in Eskimo history.
