The curtain consists of several active IR barriers that create invisible "lattices" in the window or door niche.
An attempt to breach these "barriers" immediately triggers an alarm.
IR curtains are also used to protect controlled passages, gates, fences, valuable objects in open areas, etc. In museums, IR curtains play the role of a non-conflict, discreet barrier between viewers and valuable exhibits.
